  Editor's comments:
BetFair is easily one of the biggest and most well run online gambling companies in the world. It is just a matter of time before their poker room grows into an industry leader. I like the fact that they have opted to have their own site instead of taking the easy route and joining a poker network. This gives them valuable uniqueness. Our initial rating is 4.00 of 5.00.

Full Review

Betfair Poker is owned and operated by the biggest sports exchange in the world but is run as an independent poker site which means it is no longer part of a poker network. There are still many loyal players that play here, and Betfair has a constant influx of new players because of its ties to the sports exchange customers. The software is dependable and easy to use.

Belfair has a few great options that every poker site should have, satellites to basically every live major poker tournament, supports up to 15 tables of game play at once, has room leader-board prizes monthly, and has over $20,000 in guaranteed tournaments every day.

Betfair Poker offers quality games and top-notch software that plays easily and is updated frequently ensuring the safety and stability you want with your poker room.

Deposit/Withdrawal Methods

Deposit Options: Credit card, NETeller, MoneyBookers, bank transfer, and checks.

Withdrawal Options: Credit card, NETeller, MoneyBookers, bank transfer, and checks.

Level of Competition

Whether you are at the micro level tables or riding the high stakes, the competition at Beftair is relatively soft and loose – just like you like them. If your skill level is high, this is a great place to come and cash in. If you can wait out the bad plays, loose cannons, and bad bluffs, you’ll be winning in no time. If you are an inexperienced player, you can start off at the lower tables with other new players. In general, this site has it all.

Limits/Game Selection

Game selection: Betfair Poker offers Texas Hold'em, Omaha Hi, Omaha Hi-Lo, Seven-Card Stud Hi, and Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo.

Limits: Cash games range from just $0.05/$0.10 to $1000/$2000

Tournaments: Betfair Poker hosts an array of tournaments with buy-ins ranging from a few dollars all the way up to a couple hundred for the big tournaments. Most events have plenty of people to make the tournament worth your while. Betfair’s wide range of tournaments offers guaranteed prize pools; in all, 20 guaranteed tournaments per day. The biggest of these tournaments are the daily $11,000 event, the weekly $16,000 tournament and the monthly $50,000 guaranteed tournament.

Software/Graphics

Betfair Poker's software is developed by the company and isn't part of any poker network. It's smooth and swift while offering good playability. The software had a large update early in 2007 adding a multi-table miniview, better graphics, more usable search functions, and the option to play at up to 15 tables simultaneously. The software is updated regularly. The functions are very good. They include player notes, statistics functions and a friendly feel.

The data and statistic functions in the Betfair Poker software allow notes on the opposition at the table, while the lobby supplies some statistics like viewed-flop percentage, average pot size and hands played per hour. They also offer a hand-history function allowing players to review their previously played hands.

The poker room's software runs smoothly and safely when multi-tabling, even when playing 15 separate tables. The multi-table functions allow players to resize, attach and detach tables. The tables are easy to grasp and look at.

The latest update at Betfair increased the attractiveness of an already functional and easy to play poker room. Table functions are easy to learn and well oriented. Preferences are easy to customize, making game play that much easier.

Betfair’s latest version offers some decent special features; multimedia content in the software, a function allowing you to see a folded hand, player location maps, multiple search functions, mini-views and massive multi-table play abilities.

Traffic/Availability

The traffic is concentrated to Texas Hold’em and especially in the small-stakes games. Most of the action is available in No-Limit, Limit and Pot-Limit in Hold'em, as well as Pot-Limit and Limit in both Omaha varieties.

The ring-game volume at Betfair Poker is in the lower spectrum and concentrated to small-stakes No-Limit and Limit Hold’em, but the Omaha tables are picking up. Betfair Poker had around 2,300 real-money players at peak European hours in July of 2007.

The overall traffic volume rests in the middle of the online poker room industry. At peak hours of popular tournaments, there are 12,000 tournament players.

General Information

The rake at Betfair Poker is on par with the industry average at 5% with a $3 maximum rake at any game. They have a "no flop, no drop" policy that allows players to collect pots won before the flop without any rake.

They have a rake rebate system which is applied for the lowest Limit games. In Limit games with a maximum of 10¢ blinds, a maximum of 10¢ is raked; in Limit games with a maximum of 20¢ blinds, a maximum of 20¢ is raked; and for Limit games with a maximum of $2 blinds, a maximum of $1 is raked. For all other limits the 5% rake is maxes out at $3. You will never pay more than $3 in rake in a cash game pot.

Due to U.S. legislation preventing credit card companies from collecting payments for wagers made by U.S. residents, Betfair Poker has determined to suspend all real-money gaming business in the United States.

About BetFair's Bonus:

Betfair Poker offers a $1,500 sign-up bonus at 100% bonus match for PokerListings players, which seems pretty impressive. However, I don’t see how it would be possible to collect all of that $1,500. You only get 60 days to complete the bonus, and that is a difficult period to claim a $500 bonus, using points. I have a feeling you might have to play every single day for that first 60 days. Yahoo!

Bonus dollars are cleared at $10 per 400 Betfair Poker points, which can be accumulated at ring games and tournaments. At ring games, points are given based on the table's rake as opposed to just your own contribution of rake – so you don’t have to play hands to gather points – you just have to play. Basically, you accumulate points by being dealt cards. A table rake of $0-49¢ earns zero points, 50¢-99¢ earns 0.25 points, $1-$1.99 earns 0.50 points, $2-$2.99 earns 0.75 points and $3 earns one point. Tournaments are a little different as every U.S. dollar you spend for a tournament’s fee, you are awarded two Betfair points.

Betfair Poker has a couple solid promotions including a refer-a-friend bonus, a Betfair point system, and something called a Threedom Pass, where players earn live tournament packages.

Betfair doesn't have any regulated loyalty program, however in the past there have been reload bonuses in the past, and I am assured that returning customers can expect such options.
